Lothian Specialist Child Healthy Weight Support

A programme which helps children, young people and families to make small, sustainable lifestyle changes

The programme includes:

  • An initial assessment with a specialist dietitian
  • 1:1 family support
  • Diet and lifestyle advice
  • Behaviour change techniques
  • 8 session programme, with appointments every 2 weeks (or as lead by the family)

These sessions are currently provided online by our specialist weight management Dietitians, with face to face options available if needed.

Psychology support
We understand that physical and emotional wellbeing are connected, therefore it may be helpful for our families to work with our psychology team who have specialist skills in children and adolescent mental health, if this is appropriate.

Physical activity
We have Exercise Specialists on our team who can work with families or on a 1:1 basis with the child or young person, for those who are unable to participate in the group programme. We can tailor this support to what suits the child, young person or family best.
